Legislation Nuts and Bolts

In December 2005, the House passed H.R. 4437, and in May 2006, the Senate passed S.2611.  Now both bills must be reconciled into a bill that the president can sign into law.  The House bill is an enforcement only bill, while the Senate Bill is more comprehensive in nature, having some very similar enforcement measures but also has visa reform and temporary worker provisions.  We need to dissect the Senate Bill to come up with ways to revise those sections that many find “too liberal,” or in other words, unacceptable amnesty, so that we can address all aspects of immigration in an acceptable manner.  The House has been holding hearings in late summer, and we will soon post any transcripts or conclusions that are available.
